Every once in a while an author makes it his task to provide useful photographs of poses for artists, the latest examples are either on the internet or on disc, for instance Art Models Life Nudes for Drawing Painting and Sculpting with Disk or Virtual Pose. The genre dates back to the work of Eadweard Muybridge and has been reinvented from time to time for example by John Everard
This book, A Visual Reference for the Artist, was published in 1998 by Mark Edward Smith and has a variety of poses ranging from seated, to lying to very active poses.
It has consistantly proved popular with both artists and animators because of the variety of active poses. There are about 300 different poses. Some in roughly sequential form, others examples of different models in similar situations, sitting, crouching, standing, etc.
